An Intro to the Space Exploration Society (SES) @ NYU

The central mission of SES @ NYU is to bring together students who are interested in space, rocketry, space law and business, space technology, and anything else that has to do with exploring the final frontier. Our goal is to not only stimulate existing interest, but to also inspire newcomers to join in mankind’s drive for discovery in the universe. As the Secretary from August 2020 to January 2021 and the President from January 2021 to May 2023, I have helped build up this society (founded in September 2019) from the ground up, creating a place for space at NYU. From posting on our Instagram (@ses.nyu) to creating our logo, my passion for space exploration has fueled my commitment to this society. Below are examples of the various professional events I have organized. In May 2022 we received an award for best Social Program at NYU Tandon for our Planetarium event.

The Women in Space Panel

I moderated and developed The Women in Space Panel in collaboration with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) at NYU. This moderated discussion and Q&A explored the experience of being a woman in STEM working in space industry. This panel took place in September 2022. Watch the full panel below on YouTube!

  • Erin Winick Anthony, NASA JSC, Senior Science Communications Specialist for ISS

  • Lin Van Nieuwstadt, SRI International, Senior Engineering (Former JPL)

The New Future of Space Exploration

I co-moderated and developed The New Future of Space Exploration Speaker Panel for 200+ students and alumni. This moderated discussion explored how the future of space exploration impacts our everyday lives. Alumni Speakers included:

  • John Zipay, Class of 1988, NASA

  • Emily Muggleton, Class of 2018, Collins Aerospace

  • Daniel Beltri Carelli, Class of 2018, SpaceX

This panel took place in January 2021. Watch the full panel below on YouTube!
